Born in Pheonix, Arizona, Diane Barbee has had a passion for the fine arts from the time she could hold a pencil. Barbee graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1986. It was during her studies that she developed a real sense for the eclectic style of mixed-media painting by utilyzing intricate patterns with a wide variety of textures.
Fascinated with the influential aspects of color and line, Barbee works in deriving reactions through the composition of layer upon layer and in the contrast of textures against line and geometric patterns against organic form.
Barbee's work is a true reflection of the characteristics of her inner-self. Her practical business-minded qualities combined with her ambitious creativity can be witnessed in the variety of her work. Whether it takes the form of sculpture, drawing, painting or collage, it is the driving forces within that captivate and mold the essence of her work.
Barbee is inspired daily by the beauty and design of the southwest. "Every color seems more brilliant here and color is an essential element in all of my creations."
Her work is collected throughout the country.
