Jill Slaymaker

Jill Slaymaker was born in Indiana to an artist mother who encouraged a love of world culture. After studying art at Indiana University, she recieved an MFA in painting from Texas A&M. During a stint as a cocktail waitress, Jill saved $3000 and, armed with determination and a lot of naiveté, gathered all her posessions (a battered couch and few articles of clothing) into a UHaul van and drove to Manhattan. With no job and no apartment, Jill camped on the street for three weeks before somehow finding an affordable studio in Chelsea (before it was an art district) and began her career.

Since, Jill has created over 1000 artworks. Her paintings, drawings, and prints have been exhibited in six one-person shows in Manhattan, and in over fifty group exhibitions.

In 2002, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and The Whitney Museum of American Art accquired Jill's work for their public collection.
