Sharon Whitehurst has been an artist from her earliest years. Her talent led her to the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, where she studied commercial art and design. She persued a fifteen year career as an Art Director designing and illustrating corperate publications. However, she felt the need for more artistic expressions and left the commercial art field to devote herself to fine art.
Since then, Whitehurst has worked in a wide range of styles, with nuances of Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Cubism. Her interest in the dynamic eras of change are reflected in her use of organic and geometric form, rendered in collage and mixed media. Sharon's art invites the viewer to explore the interaction of form, texture and color and to interpret their meaning for themselves.
"When I look at something, I see the lines and shapes that give the subject energy. I match these flowing lines to patterns, shapes and textures. I really enjoy my relationship to the subject and the image I'm creating."
Sharon's commission work can be seen in hotels and casinos throughout the United States and internationally. Her paintings exhibit at New York Art Expo and Atlanta Art Expo annually. A large collection is at the Signature Room in the John Hancock building in Chicago.
